Milking - related articles and blog posts
Milking is the process of extracting milk from cows using a milking machine or by hand. On our farm we milk the cows twice per day from calving through until April/May (i.e. 8-10 months per year). The herd is then milked once per day during the drying-off phase and not milked at all for 6-8 weeks over winter. Since we have a rotary cowshed but don't have automatic cup removers we require two labour units for each milking - one person to put the cups on and one person to take them off. A third person is also required during the afternoons that we drench. Related blog posts
